Cadmium-tumurium (Cd–Te) binary system is interesting because of its alloys in the melt form and the semiconducting properties of solid CdTe compound, which give it high technological importance. Cadmium tellurideCadmium telluride is used as an absorber layer in CdTe-based solar cellsCdTe-based solar cells due to its band gap energy (1.5 eV), in addition to its use in γ-ray and x-ray detectors. Understanding the electrical, optical, structural, and thermodynamic propertiesThermodynamic properties of the material is essential for all these applications. In this work, Thermo-Calc software was used to deduce the phase diagramPhase diagram and to investigate some thermodynamic propertiesThermodynamic properties such as Gibbs energy, enthalpy, and entropy of this system, especially the liquid phase. The results are discussed and compared with data in the literature.
