The Cu–Pb–Zn mineralMineral concentrates produced in the processing plants contain high percentages of pyritePyrite, despite the strenuous use of cyanide to depress it. In this research, the effect of the concentration of tannimumTannimum (tannic acidTannic acid TA) C76H52O46 as a depressant, in proportions of 50 to 800 mg/L at pH 6.0, 7.5, 9.0 and in the presence of 100 mg/L of xanthateXanthate (X) was evaluated. The experimental results obtained indicate that, despite the presence of xanthateXanthate, FeS2 is depressed by TA, the progressive increase of the depressant gradually decreases the flotationFlotation of pyritePyrite, 800 mg/L of TA depresses it in a greater proportion, obtaining it in the concentrate. 11.7% w/w cumulative flotationFlotation, the optimal pH for the highest depressionDepression was 7.5 and oxidant pulp potentialsPulp potential referred to the standard hydrogenHydrogen electrode (SHE) of around +400 mv, alkalineAlkaline pH values ​​(9.0) in the presence of xanthateXanthate and tannimumTannimum not significantly depress pyritePyrite.
