Experimental Study of the Green Anode Cooling

Carbon anodesCarbon anode are regularly consumed during the electrolytic production of aluminumAluminum. The anodeAnode production involves the preparation of an anodeAnode paste from raw materials (calcined petroleum cokeCalcined Petroleum Cokes (CPC), coal tar pitchCoal tar pitch, and all recycled carbonCarbon materials such as butts and rejected anodesAnode), the forming of green anodesAnode, their cooling, and the baking of green anodesAnode in large furnacesFurnace to about 1100–1150 ℃. The forming of green anodesAnode is carried out in a vibro-compactor or a press. The compaction process introduces stresses in the anodesAnode. These stresses are released to a certain extent depending on the cooling process. This also impacts the behavior of the anodesAnode during baking. An experimental study was undertaken to determine the impact of different cooling conditionsCooling conditions on the anodesAnode. In this article, the methodology will be discussed and the results will be presented.
