This study explores the impact of AI chatbot ChatGPT on the writing skills of 314 EFL Omani students at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences-Ibri Al Saada Campus. Using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), the research analyzed data from an online survey examining students’ perceptions, the correlation between ChatGPT usage and writing improvements, and the role of institutional support. Results indicate that ChatGPT significantly enhances argumentative writing skills, improving task response, coherence, cohesion, lexical resource, and grammatical accuracy. Students reported increased confidence and reduced anxiety. Regular use of ChatGPT led to more significant improvements, and institutional support was crucial for successful integration. The findings highlight the potential of AI tools to provide immediate, personalized feedback and promote engagement in writing tasks, offering valuable insights for enhancing educational practices.
