From Marxist analyses to more recent appeals to economic models to address philosophical questions about science in society, relations of money to philosophy prove to be contextual and diverse, partly because of the variety of relations that can be identified, documented, and considered noteworthy, and partly because of the variety of aspects of money and philosophy one can select—material, intellectual, behavioral, symbolic, etc. My comparative argument identifies cross-disciplinary, intellectual, social, and personal connections to the philosophical contributions of two Viennese figures: Otto Neurath and Ludwig Wittgenstein. While I draw attention to different philosophies of money and different roles for their respective attention to money, I also note that nevertheless both shared acquaintance with practical money matters and with theoretical debates and their participants in economics—including their respective fathers.
