In arid and semi-arid areas, it is crucial to identify suitable areas for effective groundwater recharge to ensure the long-term sustainability of aquifers. This study used a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) approach to select potential groundwater recharge areas in the Yalamlam watershed. Several data were used, including hydrogeological, land use, precipitation, elevation, and soil data. It was found that areas with significant recharge potential typically have lithology, moderate slopes, minimal land use disturbances, and higher average precipitation. On the other hand, areas with poor geological features and intense land use practices were found to have low recharge potential zones. These findings are crucial for creating sustainable groundwater management strategies and informing the development of policies for specific interventions to recharge groundwater. The findings will also contribute to developing strategies to promote the sustainable use and extraction of groundwater in the study area.
