The Influence of the Properties of Permafrost Soils on the Seismic Resistance of Civil Buildings

At present, the Far North regions have a rather large development potential, associated primarily with the presence of rich natural resources, the development of which directly affects the prospects and directions of development of the extractive industry and related industries, requiring at the same time the development of a number of auxiliary civil facilities for various purposes, which are vital for the existence of any extractive industry enterprise, as well as improving the quality of life and protection of the population. Some areas of the Far North, affecting the regions of the Far East, Western and Eastern Siberia, are located in conditions of joint distribution of permafrost soils and high seismic activity, which dictate special requirements and conditions for design and construction, as well as set special non-typical tasks for the engineer. The article analyses the effect of elastic soil foundation represented by permafrost soils in solid and thawed state on the seismic resistance of a civil multi-storey residential building with different structural schemes (conditionally rigid, medium-rigid and flexible) and foundation structures (pile, slab, strip and box foundations). The study results are presented in the article.
