Photodynamic Therapy
摘要
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) involves administering a photosensitizing material which is then activated by tissue exposure to light. The activated photosensitizer causes a molecular cascade including the creation of reactive oxygen species that leads to tissue destruction. PDT has been used for decades for local cancer treatment. Within the field of interventional pulmonology, PDT is established for treatment of endobronchial malignant disease within the central airways. Advances in navigational bronchoscopy in the peripheral lung have expanded the potential applications of PDT; however, this remains an area of investigation only.
