Robotic Lobectomy for Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

Robotic assisted thoracic surgery (RATS) lobectomy has been increasingly more preferred for anatomic lobectomy. It has been shown that, adherence to oncological principles in oncological patients including tumour free-margins, anatomical dissection and lymph node dissection provides a viable alternative as a minimally invasive surgical modality. Appropriate patient selection and obedience to safety principles of thoracic surgery such as low threshold for conversion to thoracotomy are of utmost importance for maintaining a RATS lobectomy program. Establishing a standardized RATS lobectomy technique will help to perform an appropriate lobectomy and provide better survival in oncological patients in addition to higher quality life and better patient-reported outcomes following surgery.
