Orchestrating Open Innovation Ecosystems Based on Digital Technologies: The Lutech Case Study
摘要
An innovation ecosystem (IE) that uses internal and external resources can help firms meet innovation timeframes. Open innovation (OI) encourages external partners to accelerate internal innovation processes, promoting bidirectional interactions and collaborations among multiple ecosystem entities. The convergence of IEs and OI has not been an extensively investigated topic. The study aims to fill this gap by concentrating on advancing the notion of open innovation ecosystems (OIEs) in the digital technologies industry. We examine the operations of an OIE through an exploratory-based strategy and a single case study of the large corporation Lutech. To develop, orchestrate and create an IE, Lutech launched the Lutech Campus Ecosystem, a project under the industrial project MILE within the context of the Lutech Campus activities, identified as the group’s OI hub. OI strategies, collaboration among firms, institutions and research centres, the engagement of regional innovation system actors and the use of digital technologies are the four interrelated areas under the Lutech OIE. The Lutech example illustrates how a company-led IE may promote collaboration and innovation among various stakeholders. Our research adds to the existing literature on IE powered by OI, providing valuable guidance for creating an effective innovation environment.
