Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) emerged in December 2019 and has since rapidly spread across the globe, with healthcare systems worldwide struggling to front the unprecedented challenge posed by the pandemic. Italy has been one of the earliest and most affected countries, where most health facilities had to deal with a sudden and large surge of patients in a short period of time. These facilities included public health departments, emergency medical systems and hospitals as a whole. This paper aims to explore the effect of COVID-19 on the Emergency Medicine ward of Policlinico “Federico II” and to compare the collected data to the same type of data collected for “San Giovanni di Dio and Ruggi d’Aragona” and “Cardarelli” hospitals, to understand how the pandemic changed their activity, focusing on the common aspects and the differences found in the three studied hospitals.
