The theoretical focus in this chapter aims to unsettle specific ontological-epistemological-methodological assumptions regarding the nature of communication or languaging broadly, and situating literacy within this framing. Two overlapping key ideas that frame my agenda here include, first, assumptions in the scholarship that re-circulate across what has variously been called the global-South/South/East/Rest and global-North/North/West across time that have been critiqued and that nevertheless live on, sometimes morphed into new shapes and often invisible under our very noses.
