Up-Link OFDMA Hybrid Access for Enabling IoT-Based Remote Video Monitoring Over Wi-Fi 7

With the emergence of Internet of Things (IoT) in recent years, a multitude of IoT applications have seen an exponential growth. Among these, remote video monitoring has become one of the most important IoT-based applications, facilitating the continuous monitoring of areas, assets or individuals from remote locations. For such applications, high throughput, wide bandwidth and efficient channel utilization are highly desirable. Consequently, the underlying network must have the capability to fulfil these requirements. The next generation of wireless networks IEEE 802.11be, also known as Wi-Fi 7, is announced to be key facilitator of IoT applications, thanks to its innovative features and techniques. A promising way to provide high throughput and efficient channel utilization is to introduce some modifications in its OFDMA technique originally introduced in IEEE 802.11ax amendment. More specifically, in the up-link OFDMA random access (UORA) procedure that handles the OFDMA transmissions in UL direction, some issues should be addressed. To this end, we propose the Up-link OFDMA Hybrid Access protocol which combines both scheduled and random modes to access the channel radio resources. The obtained simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed protocol.
