Experimental Investigation into the Effect of Building Orientation on Its Thermal Behavior

Energy consumption in the building sector, which is an energy-intensive sector, leads us to deploy a lot of effort in energy efficiency and the rationalization of energy through the use of renewable energies. Several parameters come into play in the thermal behavior of the building, such as insulation, ventilation, orientation, etc. This work concerns the study of the effect of the building orientation on its thermal behavior; a field investigation (temperature reading, solar radiation) is undertaken to evaluate the overall quantitative response. To synthesize the numerical results of the experiment we use the mathematical entity which is the standard deviation of the temperature difference across the walls of the building such as the temperature gradient across the walls, roof and floor. The best location and orientation provide fundamental benefits to building designers in terms of energy efficiency and thermal comfort.
