As a result of human activities, the habitability of Earth, for all living things broadly, and in particular, for humans to exist in society as we are accustomed to doing, has been irreparably altered. The Earth has entered a new stage in its history: a new geological epoch, known as the Anthropocene. At the current rate of anthropogenic change, in years to come, we shall be forced to address this problem on an immense scale. The question of a livable future is one that must be dealt with by any teacher, educator, or parent concerned about the fate of their children. Yet it has an even greater impact on children and teenagers themselves, who have become painfully aware that their future is in jeopardy, that living conditions are bound to deteriorate, and that their own lives may actually be cut short. Today in education, however, it seems largely to be “business as usual” or almost as usual.

摘要
