Küre Mountains National Park has a unique position among the 48 other national parks in Turkey due to its untouched wilderness, relatively free from human influence. This is due to its geological structure. Situated on a plateau with steep walls in all directions, the park has remained largely inaccessible, providing a refuge for many species. This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of the region, with a specific focus on Küre Mountains National Park. Divided into four sections, the chapter begins with a brief introduction to the national park, followed by a detailed description of the region’s geographical, natural, and botanical features. The subsequent section explains the geology and geomorphology of the entire area. Archaeology, specifically cave archaeology of the region is the next section. Finally, the last section discusses the history of cave exploration in the region, primarily drawing on the pioneering work of Prof. Cemal Arif Alagöz, who conducted the initial studies in 1944, while also highlighting other cave explorations in the region.
