This chapter provides analytical tools to examine the situation of young people who are neither in employment, education, nor training (NEET) in Guadeloupe and in Martinique. To what extent does the heterogenous and ambiguous NEET category make it possible to quantify, recognize, and legitimize a segment of the population marginalized from employment, the educational system, and training? This chapter contributes to the debate on the limits of statistical analyses when applied to small and insular territories. Based on our findings, we highlight the necessity for comprehensive strategies to address the challenges faced by NEETs in the French West Indies. Furthermore, we discuss the interconnected difficulties in realizing such a political endeavor. The socio-linguistic analysis of this statistical category aims to offer valuable insights and analytical frameworks for understanding and addressing the complex challenges faced by young people in NEET situations in the French Caribbean territories.
