The intensivist who uses point of care ultrasonography is responsible for image acquisition and interpretation with immediate integration of the results into clinical management. It is self-evident that competence in these elements of critical care ultrasonography (CCUS) is a prerequisite for its effective use. This chapter will review the challenges of determination of competence and ongoing quality assurance (QA) with the use of CCUS.
