An essential role of critical care ultrasonography institutional accreditation and external certification is to ensure safety and clinical competency. In this chapter, we examine the differences between accreditation and certification. We then discuss the rationale for Critical Care Echocardiography certification. We then discuss the National Board of echocardiography (NBE examination of special competence in critical care echocardiography (CCEeXAM®).
