Kidney cancer is the third most frequent neoplasm of the urinary tract, accounting for 3% of adult malignant tumors. It is the most lethal of urological cancers, with over 40% mortality. Among the histological types, clear cell renal cell carcinoma (originating in the renal cortex) is the most frequent (80–85% of primary renal neoplasms). Transitional cell carcinomas of the renal pelvis are the second most common (about 8% of cases). Nephroblastoma or Wilms tumor is more frequent in children, accounting for 5–6% of all primary renal tumors. There may also be secondary renal neoplasms, but they usually do not generate clinical symptoms and are discovered during autopsies.
