Incisional hernias (IH), also known as postoperative hernias, are long-term complications of surgical incisions. They are defined as a protrusion of tissue or viscera through a previously weakened area of the abdominal wall, at the site of a surgical scar. IH are frequent complications of abdominal surgeries and occur in 2–35% of patients undergoing laparotomies, even 5 years after the procedure.
