Obesity affects 12% of the world’s population according to the World Health Organization (WHO). In the American continent, 28% of the population is considered obese. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the obese population, 20–74 years old, has jumped from 13.4% to 42.8% in prevalence between 1960 and 1962 and 2017 and 2018, while the severely obese population has jumped from 0.9% to 9.6% during the same period.
