Preimplantation genetic testing is now available in many countries. It is a fast-developing area as more and more of the genetic mutations that result in inherited genetic disorders can be detected. Some countries are actively seeking to expand the test to a wider range of conditions. This can raise both ethical and legal issues. How can we decide which condition has a sufficiently serious impact on a person’s life to include? Does availability of the test diminish the value of lives with a disability? There arises the issue of eugenics. Different countries in the world have various forms of regulation. This chapter discusses the approaches by these countries.

摘要

Preimplantation genetic testing is now available in many countries. It is a fast-developing area as more and more of the genetic mutations that result in inherited genetic disorders can be detected. Some countries are actively seeking to expand the test to a wider range of conditions. This can raise both ethical and legal issues.
