The Integration of Virtual Reality Chemistry Laboratory: A Case Study Durban University of Technology

The adoption of virtual reality (VR) in higher education has seen a rise in recent years and is expected to maintain this upward trend. Simultaneously, there is a growing emphasis on the need for higher education institutions to reimagine both learning environments and instructional methods. An in-depth literature review has been done on what has been previously carried out in this research. This study proposed project management approach that can be used to create virtual reality-based abilities, with an emphasis on developing a virtual chemistry lab that can serve as a resource for students pursuing science-related subjects. This research helps to shape the growing landscape of science education and ultimately benefits scientists and educators. The aim of this research is to develop a Virtual Reality Chemistry Laboratory for Durban University Chemistry Laboratory that will be used by students to perform chemistry experiments. This research uses both qualitative and quantitative techniques. The population of Durban University of Technology (DUT) students were selected for this research. One hundred (100) Chemistry students have been chosen as a sample to be used to aggregate information. A survey was conducted, and the data collected will be examined to determine the viability of incorporating virtual reality into instructional activities. Virtual chemistry lab sourced was successfully created. The research contribution includes a novel framework for incorporating virtual reality into science teaching, shedding light on how it can lead to enhanced educational outcomes. This uniqueness originates from the study’s synthesis of project management methodologies within the VR setting, which provides a unique approach to skill acquisition and learning advancement.
