In the era of digital transformation, healthcare faces a critical challenge in managing and centralizing patient medical records efficiently and securely. Traditional data management systems, including paper-based records and fragmented electronic health records (EHR) systems, have demonstrated limitations in terms of data security, interoperability, and patient privacy. Blockchain technology has become known as a possible solution to all of these problems, one that has an opportunity to completely transform the administration of healthcare data management. This paper presents a comprehensive exploration of the application of blockchain technology in healthcare, specifically focusing on centralizing patient medical records. Through a literature review and analysis of real-world initiatives, we examine the potential of blockchain to address the shortcomings of existing systems. Blockchain’s key characteristics, such as decentralization, data immutability, and cryptographic security, offer a unique framework for enhancing data security, improving interoperability among healthcare providers, and empowering patients to take control of their health information. The literature review highlights previous research and case studies that illustrate how blockchain has been successfully implemented in healthcare settings. We discuss notable initiatives like MedRec and Medicalchain, showcasing their impact on data security, patient care coordination, and data sharing within the healthcare ecosystem.
