Peer review, peer learning, and quality assurance all play an integral part of medical practice and in medical imaging. They serve as a means to ensure that each individual patient’s desired health outcome is achieved through the monitoring and improvement of system processes and outcomes. By evaluating the performance of radiology peers in a system that supports learning and minimizes blame, patient care can ultimately be improved. In radiology, quality is often focused on the image interpretation accuracy, but quality in radiology goes well beyond the accuracy of radiology final reports. This book chapter is intended to highlight peer review, peer learning, and QA/QI measures in radiology with a focus on emergency radiology, but can translate to other subspecialties of radiology as well.
