Today, extremism and violent extremism are very complex and multifaceted problems that influence many countries and regions, including the United Arab Emirates. Extremist groups are by their nature less cohesive, and the immediate threat they represent is becoming more and more difficult to understand and even more difficult to predict. Almost every day, we witness not only targeted attacks but also self-inspired acts of violence. The manuscript focuses on the scientific analysis of the phenomena of extremism and violent extremism and the methods of fighting extremism and violent extremism. The literature on the main characteristics of violent extremism and current violent extremism forms, together with the literature on existing tools for fighting violent extremism, is researched. The results are presented to the experts’ focus group. A list of the most important tools for fighting violent extremism applicable to the UAE includes education, sports, and social media. Finally, the manuscript concludes by proposing a five-step model for developing programs for fighting violent extremism.
