Chapter 7 focuses on the contribution of plastics converters and product manufacturers to the development of a circular plastics economy. Concrete practical experiences from renowned companies show the challenges that these actors in the cycle have to overcome in terms of design for recycling, own production or sourcing of recyclates, usage of recyclates, and conformity of products with recycled content, and which solutions the have already achieved. The examples from the areas of non-food packaging, both rigid and flexible, technical parts for the automotive and construction/building industry, and electrical appliances provide a broad overview, in particular of the issues and problems of continuous and safe use of recyclates as HDPE, PP, LDPE, PVC, or ABS. Readers from this area of the plastics cycle will be particularly interested in how these companies have gradually acquired know-how on recyclates and their use, sometimes from simple to very sophisticated applications. Conclusions and outlooks are given among others for recyclability of flexible multi-layer packaging.
