Quantitative Path to 2050 The plastics and chemicals industry currently consumes more than 500 Mt of oil per year as feedstock. In order to meet climate change targets, the goal for 2050 is to replace fossil fuel use with renewable energy and to replace fossil feedstocks in plastics and chemicals, aiming for net zero use of circular and renewable feedstocks. The transition milestones are to achieve a 30% reduction by 2030, 60% by 2040 and 100% by 2050.
