Miniaturization of a Microstrip Band-Pass Filter for 5G Applications in the FR1 Band Using Complementary Split-Ring Resonators (CSRRs)
摘要
Microstrip band-pass filters are essential to RF and microwave communication systems. However, their size can make them incompatible with smaller devices for 5G applications. This chapter presents a method of miniaturizing a microstrip-coupled line band-pass filter using a complementary split-ring resonator (CSRR) for wireless communication, specifically for the FR1 (410 MHz–7.125 GHz) bands of 5G. The miniaturized filter was simulated under CST and manufactured on an FR4 substrate with a ɛr = 4.4 and a height of approximately 1.6 mm. The simulated performance was validated by measurements using a vector network analyzer. The experimental results confirmed the simulations, showing bandwidth behavior around 3.2 GHz with a bandwidth of 389 MHz at −3 dB. The proposed filter measures 43 × 20 × 1.6 mm3. A comparison between the conventional coupled line filter and the one with CSRR shows a significant decrease in size (76%) with satisfactory whitening performance.
