Major Commercial Ports of Malaysia, Sea Lanes and Security
摘要
Malaysia’s commercial ports play an important and vital role in spurring the national growth and contributing to the nation’s Blue Economy. The ports of Malaysia are strategically located to take full benefits from the concepts of the Belt and Road Initiative adopted by the People’s Republic of China in 2013. The narrative in this chapter is supplemented with maps that depict the limits of Malaysia’s major commercial ports; the prescribed sea lanes to select ports of Sabah; areas of acts of armed-robbery and piracy over a period of many years. A brief discussion is offered on Indonesia’s Archipelagic Straight Territorial Sea Baselines and Archipelagic Sea Lanes as these concepts partially impact of Malaysia’s maritime jurisdictional limits.
