The importance of a blue economy to a coastal and island nation should not be understated nor underestimated. Accruing the maximum benefits within sustainability guidelines and practices is feasible if the data is recorded and maintained. Maps and other graphics are of fundamental value to the basis for theories, measurements, and analysis; and are useful for assisting those who engage in planning (in the marine and terrestrial contexts), and applications of marine cadastre, natural hazard assessment, resource development and environmental protection. This chapter alludes to Malaysia’s long-term development plans, its regional partnership, and importantly the nation’s ambitions to spur national growth by taking advantage of its geographical location at the crossroads of regional and international maritime trade.
