Overview and Perspectives of Nanofertilizers to Uplift the Livelihood of Farmers in Indian Scenario

Chemicals have been the central sage of the agrarian as input to optimize the yield and its attributing characters. Fertilizer among all perceived a necklace position. Increasing population increases feed pressure results the disturbances in ideal fertilizer application thereby synchronizes loss of 30–50%. Thus, the scientific community suggested extracting active ingredients which are nano-sized and exposing it surface area of plants. This later evolved the ground base for nanotechnology thereby acting as the present inventive frontier and receiving much attention. Its application reduces the adverse effect of abiotic stress, toxic heavy metal accumulation, and increases the nutrient use efficiency. The Indian scientific community relies that foliar application is the only way by which plant is being nourished via nanofertilizer application. This results loss of soil biodiversity which is an important contributor to soil health. Moreover, the rapid application of nanofertilizers raised a serious concern about the improper distribution of nutrients and causes thread in human health via the food chain. Therefore, the review has been presented to overview the application of nanofertilizers in the Indian scenario and concludes that the nanofertilizer reduces the pressure of integrated nutrient management but is not the substitute for agrochemicals.
