AI Is Here. But Is the Legal Profession Ready for It?
摘要
The legal profession is facing unprecedented transformative changes driven by the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI). Latest conferences and discussions focus on the integration of technologies, digital transformation, and enhancing efficiency in legal and compliance services through innovative software solutions. This chapter takes a different stance and explores the multifaceted challenges at the individual, team and organizational level from a human perspective. Applying a systems-psychodynamic lens, it uncovers unconscious dynamics and deep-rooted fears combined with protecting defense mechanisms, thereby showing a profession which has long been known for its immunity to change. The integration of AI, however, requires a paradigm shift towards adaptability and innovation. Therefore, the biggest challenge is not technological but psychological. Legal professionals need to redefine their roles and embrace new technologies while maintaining their commitment to justice and advocacy. This transition involves significant reorientation, as professionals navigate the phases of letting go of traditional practices and learn to adapt to a world of uncertainty. The chapter offers a first aid toolkit for lawyers to support change in their firms and departments. It includes strategies for fostering psychological safety and leveraging group dynamics as critical components of successful change management, ensuring that legal organizations can thrive in an AI-enhanced future.
