This paper addresses the need to adapt traditional programming educational programs to accommodate visually impaired students’ needs. The adoption of assistive software and hardware resources enables blind and low-sighted learners to acquire software development skills, enhancing the inclusivity of programming education and contributing to a more representative future workforce in IT. The main contributions of our work are: (i) a systematic literature review on teaching programming to blind children, and (ii) the definition of a toolkit composed of pre-existing assistive software components, to support software development by blind students, based on the literature review.

摘要

This paper addresses the need to adapt traditional programming educational programs to accommodate visually impaired students’ needs. The adoption of assistive software and hardware resources enables blind and low-sighted learners to acquire software development skills, enhancing the inclusivity of programming education and contributing to a more representative future workforce in IT. The main contributions of our work are: (i) a systematic literature review on teaching programming to blind children, and (ii) the definition of a toolkit composed of pre-existing assistive software components, to support software development by blind students, based on the literature review.
