The paper also emphasizes the role of publications, patents, and standards in shaping 5G technology. It highlights the top 5G publishing and funding organizations, revealing a strong Asian presence, particularly in China. Furthermore, it underscores the strategic importance of standards in 5G technology development and the need for coordination between patents and standards. German contributions to 5G standardization are discussed, focusing on organizations like Deutsche Telekom, VDE/DKE, and initiatives like the 5G-ACIA. The EU’s 5G spectrum strategy and Germany's allocation plans across different frequency bands are examined in detail. The paper explores 5G’s significance in connected and automated driving, as exemplified by the 5GCroCo project, which aims to ensure seamless cross-border communication for cooperative, connected, and automated mobility. Finally, the integration of 5G in Industry 4.0 is explored, emphasizing the role of 5G in enabling smart factories, IoT, industrial automation control, logistics tracking, and remote diagnosis, operation, and maintenance services.
