In automotive electronics industry, the rework of solder joints of Printed Circuit Assemblies (PCA) is generally not permitted, except in a few individual cases. The present work is focused on trying to list the reasons why the users forbid the PCA manufacturers to rework the non-complying products’ solder joints. Case studies are compared in order to classify the physical phenomena, as well as classifying by the cost of rework process for the volume of the products, and reasons of the customer-manufacturer relations are assessed. Conclusions are drawn based on the review of the relevant literature as well as on discussions with quality assurance and technical professionals working in the automotive electronics industry.
