SAE Level 4 and higher automated driving systems (ADS) are designed to perform driving tasks independently, without any human assistance. These tasks encompass the full range of driving operations, including route selection, parking, monitoring the driving environment, and maintaining the vehicle. This independence eliminates the need for human intervention and makes it challenging for humans to understand the ADS′s actions. Consequently, human-vehicle interaction (HVI) becomes even more critical. This is because effective HVI helps users understand and predict the system, which in turn builds trust and improves user comfort. Recognizing the importance of HVI, this research presents a human-machine interface (HMI) specifically designed to facilitate communication between humans and Level 4 + ADSs. This HMI focuses on establishing effective communication strategies and tools for emergency cases, which are critical for maintaining trust. By incorporating major human-friendly principles, the proposed HMI presents a comprehensive approach to communication, extending from traditional internal displays to innovative external displays. These methods signify a novel approach to ADS-human communication, utilizing multiple channels. The contribution of this study lies in its development of an interface that fosters new forms of interaction between ADS and humans, aiming to enhance the automated vehicle user experience and promote greater road safety overall.

摘要
