Fungal Infections
摘要
Intertriginous skin folds are the favourite areas for infection with Candida species and dermatophytes (Epidermophyton, Microsporum, Trichophyton). Transmission mostly occurs from animal to human but also from human to human. They colonise the upper layer of the epidermis (stratum corneum) and rarely spread via the follicles into deeper layers. Compromised immunity and diabetes are promoting factors. Epidemics caused by pathogenic fungi (favus) are rare today.
