In this chapter we discuss the idea of a vector and its visual metaphor, an arrow in space or the plane. We discuss mathematical model-making in general and the connection between a model and “reality.” We go on to define \(\mathbb {R}^n\) and Euclidean space, vector operations such as dot product, linear transformations, systems of equations and matrix operations including the determinant.

摘要

In this chapter we discuss the idea of a vector and its visual metaphor, an arrow in space or the plane. We discuss mathematical model-making in general and the connection between a model and “reality.” We go on to define \(\mathbb {R}^n\) and Euclidean space, vector operations such as dot product, linear transformations, systems of equations and matrix operations including the determinant.
