Enhanced Recovery Pathways: What’s the Evidence?
摘要
Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) is a multidisciplinary evidence-based perioperative pathway aiming to improve postoperative outcomes. The first official ERAS pancreas guidelines were published in 2012 and updated in 2019. The ERAS protocol was thereafter assessed and validated in various forms, including clinical and oncological outcomes. The positive impact of an enhanced recovery pathway for pancreatic resection translated into improved clinical outcomes with reduced postoperative complications, including reduction of delayed gastric emptying, fastened functional recovery, and reduced length of stay without increased readmission rate. The implementation of ERAS is a very cost-effective intervention and offers a demonstrated benefit in health care management. The extension of ERAS benefits to oncological outcomes as well as patient-reported outcomes remains to be investigated.
