An Approach of Latent Class Mixed Models for Analyzing New Genotypes of Saccharum spp

The demand for new sugarcane varieties to meet market demand is constant in the sugar industry. According to the National Committee for the Sustainable Development of Sugarcane, Mexico has problems with efficiency and profitability, as it continues to fail to renew and diversify the commercial varieties it uses to grow sugarcane, which translates into more than \(70\%\) of the area dedicated to sugarcane cultivation. This generates significant economic losses. In addition, there is the demand for food and the optimization of natural resources for food production. The goal of this work is to analyze the performance of 34 new Saccharum spp hybrids and six commercial varieties, in the adaptability test phase in the plant cycle, using latent class mixed models. Six industrial quality variables were used for the study: sucrose, brix degrees, purity, reducing agents, fiber, and humidity. According to the results, only the fiber percentage separates the materials into two groups, the group with materials of higher fiber percentage, which includes the commercial varieties of early and early-intermediate maturity; the group with materials of higher fiber percentage, which consists of the commercial varieties of early and early-intermediate maturity; and the group with materials containing a lower rate of fiber, which includes the commercial variety of intermediate-late maturity.
