Circumterrestrial space extends from a height of 100 km above the surface (known as the Karman limit) to the geostationary (or geosynchronous equatorial) orbit (GEO) which is 35,786 km above the equator. Only the geostationary orbit is required to be precisely equatorial and precisely at that height, all other types of orbits are free in terms of height and inclination.
