Horizon Makers is a serious board game designed to nurture critical Futures Literacy skills such as creative imagination, storytelling, sense-making, critical thinking, and empathy. Drawing from narrative pedagogy and leveraging the Mechanics, Dynamics, Aesthetics (MDA) framework, the game immerses players in four distinct Sci-Fi-based future scenarios. The development followed an action-research methodology, incorporating iterative feedback from playtesting with academic and corporate participants. Results from the Game Experience Questionnaire (GEQ) and the User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ) indicate high levels of engagement, enjoyment, and meaningful learning, with minimal negative emotions. Future plans include expanding the Horizon Makers framework to new scenarios, such as urban development and nanotechnology applications, to enhance educational outcomes further and foster a forward-thinking mindset.
