The objective of this study is to explore the factors influencing gender equality in higher education context. More in detail, it investigates the impact of some characteristics of universities including size, complexity, internationalization, and age on their level of gender equality. The econometric analysis, conducted on a sample of 96 international universities, reveals that the level of gender equality is positively influenced by the complexity of these institutions and negatively by their age. This study enriches the academic literature and provides practical implications for universities and policymakers.
