Postcholecystectomy syndrome (PCS) is a diagnosis for patients who have had their gallbladder removed experienced with symptoms nearly identical to their original complaint that led to their cholecystectomy, despite their surgical absence of the gallbladder. Onset of symptoms can vary greatly from the short postoperative period to years later. The differential diagnosis of the driving force behind the patient’s symptomatology is broad and needs to be evaluated as such. As always, a thorough history and physical exam is crucial. Typical presentation includes vomiting, nausea, indigestion, diarrhea, intermittent episodes of abdominal discomfort. Treatment can differ greatly depending on workup and associated findings.
