Choledocholithiasis refers to stones within the common bile duct (CBD). Stones can be either primary (generated in the duct) or secondary (originating from the gallbladder—MORE COMMON). Treatment is focused on clearing the obstructing and reducing the risk of recurrence. Most patients are asymptomatic but could have symptoms of cholangitis.
