Optimization of Shared Trips in the Door-to-Door Transportation Service for People with Disabilities: A Case Study in Barcelona

This paper introduces an innovative Dial-a-ride problem to enhance vehicle-sharing efficiency, specifically focusing on improving transportation for individuals with disabilities in Barcelona. Utilizing a systematic strategy to produce extensive Pareto front solutions, the algorithm strategically optimizes ride-sharing for door-to-door services, striking an effective balance between cost efficiency and service quality. It offers a practical solution for decision-makers by facilitating a sharing strategy that reduces operational expenses, increases service capability, alleviates traffic congestion, and diminishes environmental impact. This research offers insights into transportation planning, emphasizing the potential for sustainable and inclusive urban mobility advancements.
