We propose the conceptual design of a Decision Support System (DSS) for the optimal allocation of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations (CSs) within an urban area under criteria of social and environmental benefits. The proposed DSS employs simulation, optimization, and a machine learning metamodel to suggest decisions that optimize traffic patterns in the city, operation of the electric grid, air quality, and carbon footprint of the city by taking into account all the variables involved and their mutual influence.
