The incubation period is estimated to range from 7 to 21 days. Given the global spread of the disease, the World Health Organization (WHO) has issued an alert. Diagnosis is primarily based on polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing. Clinically, monkeypox manifests as skin lesions, which commonly appear on the face and extremities and progress to pustules and crusts. Treatment is symptom oriented, with antiviral options available for severe cases. Infected individuals should be isolated, and vaccination is recommended for at-risk groups as a preventive measure. Special caution should be exercised during pregnancy and breastfeeding regarding medication and vaccine selection. Implementing educational measures and hygiene protocols is crucial to prevent disease transmission.
